Noland Adams (center), 2006 President of the National Solid-Axle Corvette Club presents the So. Cal. SACC Banner to Chapter Officers President Bruce Fuhrman (left end) and Membership/Treasurer John Costales (right end).  Max Brockhouse (2006 National Vice President, 2007 National President) appears in the background.

In January 2004 several C-1 Corvette owners and enthusiasts in the Ventura County and West LA County started a phone dialog re the possible formation of a local C-1 Corvette club. We were not sure what we wanted to offer to potential members and if we could find enough interested people to form a club. Chip Werstein and Dick Block both agreed that they were aware of at least 6-8 people who might be interested from the West Valley area. John Costales and Bruce Fuhrman came up with at least 5-6 people who might be interested from Ventura County. So, the 4 of us, plus Dick Blocks son Jeff, met at Chip’s home on 22 August 2004 to gather our thoughts.

Dick Block volunteered to be the President, Vice President/Membership; Chip Werstein, Treasurer/Secretary; Bruce Fuhrman and Larry Pearson and Jeff Block; Members at large. Initial decision as to the demographics;  San Diego to Kern and SLO County on the North and the East/West boundary: Ocean to Riverside County. These boundaries are now San Diego to Bakersfield and the ocean to Arizona.

Membership to be only C-1 owners, and have 3-4 events a year and 3-4 general meetings a year. A membership campaign was begun with current and previous members of SACC plus any other known C-1 owners. SACC was very helpful in providing a membership roster for SO CAL as well as Charter info and by-laws. The membership campaign continued through February 2005 and we had our first General Meeting on 26 February 2005 at the Odyssey Restaurant in Granada Hills. There were 66 people attending to meet each other and be welcomed by Noland Adams President of SACC.

The first newsletter “THE SOLID SCOOP” was published in January 2005. By February 2005 we had 64 members and ater surveying the membership we focused the balance of 2005 on activities included an April “Sideways” tour to Solvang, a Tech Session and General meeting in May, Route ’66 rendezvous with the Northwest SACC Chapter through SO CAL turf in August as well as a Saturday road trip to Paradise Cove in Malibu, received our Charter and Banner at the SACC National meeting in Carlisle, PA in August, a second Tech Session in September, participation in Red Line Corvette show in September and in October a second General Membership Meeting at Corvette Mikes in Anaheim.

2006 brought a new board, Bruce Fuhrman, President, Dick Block, Vice President, Larry Pearson, Secretary, John Costales, Treasurer/ Membership. So far we have had a Tech Session on April 8 and a General Membership meeting on April 22 at the Odyssey Restaurant were we were privileged to have a guest speaker, Peter Mann of Harry Mann Chevrolet fame and Dick Gulstrand in attendance. Chapter Membership stands at 88 owners.

Our current membership is 160+ members and continues to grow.  Our Newsletter, "The Solid Scoop", is published 4 times per year and all of the newsletters can be found on this Web Site.  The Tech Sessions our member began (Chip Werstein) in 2005 with 12 members in attendance now draws around 100 people with close to 50 C-1's.  All topics discussed are C-1 related and keeps the cars on the road.

Currently, in July of 2009, our Chapter is Hosting the SACC Convention for the US.  This event is being held in Ventura, Ca. and invites all the National SACC Chapters to attend.
